Carbon dioxide methanation over Ni catalysts supported on various metal oxides

Abstract: Carbon dioxide methanation is well known to offer some advantages and be catalyzed by Ru, Rh, Pd, and Ni. In this study, Ni catalysts supported on various metal oxides were fabricated and their catalytic activity for CO2 methanation was evaluated. The CO2 conversion for most of catalysts drastically increased at 225-250 ºC and reached a maximal value at 300-350 ºC. The order of CH4 yield at 250 ºC was as follows; Ni/Y2O3 > Ni/Sm2O3 > Ni/ZrO2 > Ni/CeO2 > Ni/Al2O3 > Ni/La2O3. The catalytic activity could be part… Show more

“…Supported Ni catalysts are the most widely investigated materials for CO 2 methanation due to their high efficiency in CH 4 production and low cost [75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89]. A lot of supports have been investigated for Ni catalysts since, as is well known, the catalytic performance strongly depends upon the nature and properties of the support.…”

“…The Ni/Al 2 O 3 catalyst shows a high catalytic activity, although it suffers from severe carbon deposition or poor stability due to the high reaction temperature used [88,90]. Therefore, the aim throughout the years was to develop catalysts able to show both high activity and resistance to carbonaceous deposits in the reaction.…”

“…The concentration of CH 4 is 1.7 ppm and N 2 O is 0.3 ppm. Hence their contribution to the greenhouse effect is less prominent than CO 2 [20,40]. At present, human beings globally face serious energy and environmental issues.…”

“…CH 4 demands have been increasing in recent years [9,10]. At present, Rh/γ-Al 2 O 3 [11,12], Ni/Al 2 O 3 [13,14], Ni/ZrO 2 [15][16][17], Ni/CeO 2 [17][18][19], Ni/USY zeolites [20,21], and Ni/La 2 O 3 [17,22] have been used for the catalytic hydrogenation of CO 2 to CH 4 . Among them, the Ni-based catalysts have been widely used in CO 2 hydrogenation due to their lower cost than the noble metal-based catalysts, high catalytic properties and they are easily obtainable [10,13,14,22].…”
