Carbon Based Polymeric Nanocomposites for Dye Adsorption: Synthesis, Characterization, and Application

Abstract: Agglomeration and restacking can reduce graphene oxide (GO) activity in a wide range of applications. Herein, GO was synthesized by a modified Hummer’s method. To minimize restacking and agglomeration, in situ chemical oxidation polymerization was carried out to embed polyaniline (PANI) chains at the edges of GO sheets, to obtain GO-PANI nanocomposite. The GO-PANI was tested for the adsorptive removal of brilliant green (BG) from an aqueous solution through batch mode studies. Infrared (FT-IR) analysis reveale… Show more

“…However, CTS-PANI, α-CTS-PANI, α-CTS films did not perform well in removing the AO7, probably the presence of PANI and α-ketoglutaric acid prevents the absorption of AO7 by effective sites of chitosan. The CTS-PANI-GO film causes both MB and Khan et al, 2021). (Pathirana et al, 2023) (Minisy et al, 2021a) (An et al, 2020) (Katowah et al, 2021) This work…”

“…In addition, the preparation of GO is easy and provides the potential for the synthesis of low-cost and large-scale productions. In a study, GO/PANI nanocomposite was used to remove brilliant green (BG)(Ali Khan et al, 2021). The adsorption of BG onto GO/PANI nanocomposite had a monolayer adsorption capacity (qm) of 142.8 mg/g.…”

“…The Δ H ° values were obtained as 10.82 (kJ/mol) and 7.43 (kJ/mol) for BG and MO dyes, respectively. Like Δ G 0 , the values for Δ H ° are lower than 40 (kJ/mol), validating the physisorption process between the dyes and polymer matrix. , …”

“…According to the Temkin model, the heat of adsorption decreases linearly with increasing surface coverage [ 25 , 26 ]. where q e is the amount of the dye adsorbed at equilibrium [mg/g], C e is the equilibrium concentration of the dye [mg/L], B constant relates to the heat of adsorption and is expressed in terms of B = RT/B T , B T is the Temkin constant [J/mol], R stands for the gas constant (8.314 J/mol K), A T Temkin isotherm equilibrium binding constant [L/mg].…”
