Carbon-Based Nanomaterials for Sustainable Agriculture: Their Application as Light Converters, Nanosensors, and Delivery Tools

Abstract: Nano-enabled agriculture is now receiving increasing attentions. Among the used nanomaterials, carbon-based nanomaterials are good candidates for sustainable agriculture. Previous review papers about the role of carbon-based nanomaterials in agriculture are either focused on one type of carbon-based nanomaterial or lack systematic discussion of the potential wide applications in agriculture. In this review, different types of carbon-based nanomaterials and their applications in light converters, nanosensors, a… Show more

“…Efficient delivery of environmentally friendly NPs with ROS scavenging ability into plants might be a good approach to help to improve plant stress tolerance. For example, CDs have the advantages of small size, self-fluorescence, facile surface conjugation, and absence of heavy metal elements ( Li et al., 2020b ; Zhu et al., 2022 ). Their small size and facile surface conjugation could allow for efficient delivery into plants.…”

“…Utilizing NMs in order to improve plant ROS homeostasis maintenance is a viable approach that could support the development of nano-efficient agriculture. To help in the increase in plant stress tolerance and effective delivery of ROS scavenging, environment friendly NPs of plants may be a good strategy [ 81 ]. NPs enhance the photosynthetic activity of stressed plants, whereby the improvement of root growth, upregulation of aquaporins, altered intracellular water metabolism, accumulation of compatible solutes, and ionic homeostasis are the main mechanisms by which NPs alleviate stress caused by abiotic factors.…”
