Carbon-Based Fe3O4 Nanocomposites Derived from Waste Pomelo Peels for Magnetic Solid-Phase Extraction of 11 Triazole Fungicides in Fruit Samples

Abstract: Carbon-based Fe3O4 nanocomposites (C/Fe3O4 NCs) were synthesized by a simple one-step hydrothermal method using waste pomelo peels as the carbon precursors. The characterization results showed that they had good structures and physicochemical properties. The prepared C/Fe3O4 NCs could be applied as excellent and recyclable adsorbents for magnetic solid phase extraction (MSPE) of 11 triazole fungicides in fruit samples. In the MSPE procedure, several parameters including the amount of adsorbents, extraction tim… Show more

“…The use of food by-products as sorbent phases in the extraction of vegetable matrices has been documented in the literature, and some interesting applications have been proposed [72][73][74]. The valorization of biomass that is normally discharged as food waste is an added value for this type of sorbent in view of the circular economy paradigm.…”

“…Two approaches have been very recently proposed based on the use of pomelo peels. The one-pot synthesis pathway is very similar, using either a mixture of FeCl 3 -FeCl 2 [97] or FeCl 3 -urea [98] as precursors of the Fe 3 O 4 magnetic core of the nanocomposite. Both methods are characterized by the mild conditions used during the synthesis, with temperatures not exceeding 80 • C or 180 • C, respectively.…”

“…Both methods are characterized by the mild conditions used during the synthesis, with temperatures not exceeding 80 • C or 180 • C, respectively. Once obtained, the solids are activated with an organic media and used for the extraction of fluoroquinolones and parabens from waters [97] or triazole fungicides from fruits [98]. The amount of sorbent required for the extraction was in the low milligram level (20-50 mg) with excellent sensitivity and precision.…”

“…GAs as adsorbents have shown their versatility as pollutant absorbers for the removal of dyes, formaldehyde, and other environmental toxins; on membranes for separating oil-in-water emulsion; and for efficient food toxin removal [ 22 , 23 ]. AC is often used as an adsorbent to remove dark-colored compounds [ 24 ], heavy metals [ 25 ], pesticides [ 26 ], and some organic acids [ 27 , 28 ], but few reports exist on the use of AC to enrich PMFs from CPW. In the adsorption process of AC, it is simpler and less time-consuming when compared to other methods.…”
