Carbon balance in high rate dissimilation of acetic acid in semicontinuous methane fermentation

Abstract: SummaryThe nature of anaerobic methane fermentation has been studied extensively over a period of about three years by means of 10-1. semicontinuous fermenters, u-ith ethyl alcohol and calcium acetate as carbon and energy sources. Thc inoculum for the two systems was isolated by enrichment techniques from primary sewage sludge and used to initiat.e the processes. No subsequent seeding was necessary.
