Objective This study aimed to determine the dietary habits related to fish consumption and the risk factors associated with acquiring an ichthyo-zoonotic disease.Materials and Methods A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out by means of a structured survey administered to 150 individuals in the city of Cali, Colombia.Results Epidemiological variables regarding fish consumption and preparation were contrasted with the medical records of the respondents. The median fish consumption in the surveyed population was three times a month, with raw or salted/marinated fish once a month. A positive correlation between fish consumption and allergic conditions was confirmed. There was no infectious or parasitic history associated with the data on fish consumption.Conclusions A relationship between fish consumption and allergies was confirmed. Further research is necessary to establish the possible pathogens associated with hypersensitivity, such as parasites of the Anisakidae family.

Prochilodus nigricans (Osteichthyes: Prochilodontidae) es un pez muy conocido en la Amazonía Peruana como “Boquichico”, de tamaño mediano y carne agradable, su consumo es tradicional y básico para la alimentación de la población; sin embargo, existen algunos factores socioeconómicos que permiten que las personas puedan consumir o no. El objetivo es determinar los factores que determinan el consumo en la ciudad de Pucallpa, que corresponde a un trabajo explicativo de corte transversal. Se realizó 385 encuestas. El análisis de los datos se realizó a través de la estimación de un modelo logit (regresión logística). Los resultados muestran que, de los siete factores considerados como el nivel de ingreso, edad, género, nivel de educación, carga familiar, ocupación e idioma, solo el ingreso familiar (P-value = 0.000) y el nivel de educación (P-value = 0.049) determinan el consumo de Prochilodus nigricans (Boquichico). Se concluye, que si el encuestado incrementa en un sol (S/. 1.00) su nivel de ingreso, el consumo de este pescado disminuye en un 3.8%, al igual que si su nivel de educación asciende en un nivel el consumo disminuirá en un 7.3%.

Objective: Nematodes of the Anisakidae family are parasites found in aquatic organisms. The lack of studies on anisakidosis and Anisakis in Colombia has meant this type of parasitosis is not widely known by health personnel and underreporting of the disease is highly likely. The objective of this study was to identify anisakid nematodes in the armed snook fish (Centropomus armatus) obtained by artisanal fishing and sold commercially in the coastal port city of Buenaventura. Material and methods: Morphological identification of these worms was performed using taxonomic keys and supplemented with microscopic study using the histochemical Hematoxylin-Eosin technique. Results: Nematodes of the genus Anisakis were found in 42% and the mean abundance was 2.8 in the C. armatus. Conclusions:The findings confirm the presence of Anisakis sp. in fish for human consumption in Buenaventura, the main fishing port in the Colombian Pacific region. This finding in itself warrants further investigation into the possibility of an emerging disease in Colombia.Key words: Anisakis, allergy, anisakidosis, armed snook fish, emerging diseases. Primer reporte de Anisakis sp. en el pez Róbalo (Centropomus armatus) capturado y comercializado en Buenaventura, Colombia ResumenObjetivos: Los nematodos de la familia Anisakidae son parásitos de organismos acuáticos. La falta de estudios en anisakidosis y anisakidos en Colombia ha resultado en el desconocimiento de esta infección por parte del personal de salud y un posible subregistro de la enfermedad. El objetivo de este estudio fue identificar nematodos anisakidos en el pez róbalo (Centropomus armatus), obtenido por pesca artesanal y comercializado en la localidad de Buenaventura. Materiales y métodos: La identificación morfológica se realizó usando claves taxonómicas para estos gusanos complementada con estudio microscópico mediante técnica histoquímica de Hematoxilina-Eosina. Resultados: Se encontraron nemátodos del género Anisakis en 42% y una abundancia promedio de 2.8 en el hospedero C. armatus. Conclusiones: Los hallazgos confirman la presencia de Anisakis sp. en peces de consumo humano de Buenaventura, principal puerto pesquero en la región Pacífica colombiana, lo cual abre el camino en la investigación de una posible enfermedad emergente en este país.
