“…Cutaneous reactions to captopril arc common, and var ious clinical patterns have been reported [2]: pruritus, urticaria, maculopapular rashes, pityriasis rosca-like eruptions [3], lichenoid eruptions [4,5] and pemphigus [6].…”

“…It has been suggested that the cause of this early type is a pharmacologic mechanism resulting from blockade of kininase II which is thought to potentiate kinin action at the dermal level [8]. The late type appears in the form of more or less generalized rashes and especially of pemphigus [9,[10][11][12] and lichenoid eruptions [13,14]. These erup tions are not dose-dependent, require dis continuance of treatment and have an as yet unknown pathogenetic mechanism.…”

“…Skin biopsy speci- [3] suggest that captopril-induced eruptions could be the result of potentiation of kinin-mediated cutaneous reactions. Pyritinol and penicillamine have been described as causing lichenoid eruptions similar to captopri I [9,10], and several reports [5,10] pointed out that the sulfhydryl group present in these three drugs might be the allergenic form. This group is not present in the enalapril molecule, a similar drug not related to lichenoid eruptions.…”
