An investigation has been carried out on the effects of the articulated sting, used at the Institute for Aerospace Research (IAR) 1.5m Trisonic Slowdown Wind Tunnel, on the aerodynamic loads measurements of the MK83-BSU mounted on the CF-18 model. The sting-induced increments in store loads for various Mach numbers are discussed in the paper, and qualitatively verified by the CFD solutions from an Euler code. The sting effects on the store trajectories released from the CF-18 are also studied. It is concluded that for store safety release study, errors due to the sting effects are negligible for the conditions investigated.
