Capillary viscometry of molten polycaprolactam

Abstract: SynopsisA study was made of the rheological behavior of 35 samples of nylon 6 polymers of molecular weights varying from 4,000 to 40,000. A capillary extrusion rheometer was employed, and flow curves extending over a large range of shear rates were obtained. The effect of temperature, shear rate, and molecular weight on viscosity is reported, and some peculiarities of the flow behavior of nylon 6 polymers are discussed.
