Capillary electrophoresis separation of the desamino degradation products of oxytocin

Abstract: Oxytocin is an endogenous and therapeutic hormone necessary for maternal health. It is also the subject of fast growing research in the field of behavioral science. This article describes a rapid capillary electrophoresis method using UV detection at 214 nm for the determination of the deamidation products of oxytocin. Deamidation is the most common degradation pathway of peptides and proteins and can lead to reduced therapeutic efficiency of biopharmaceuticals. To achieve a separation of the seven structurall… Show more

“…It can stimulate milk release and is also extensively used in vegetables and fruits for increasing the growth rate and milk production from lactating animals. There has been discussion about the use of exogenous OXT in milking cattle which may have toxicological consequences during nonphysiological exposure [1][2][3][4]. Hence, it is significant to develop sensitive methods for the determination of OXT for food safety.…”

“…CDs could be applied as monomolecular pseudostationary phases to improve the separation efficacy among peptides with the same size to charge ratios . In a recent work, Creamer and colleagues employed a cost‐effective and fast CEKC method using sulfobutyl ether β‐CD as a pseudostationary phase to follow the heat‐stressed degradation of oxytocin in acidic condition and to separate seven desamino degradation products with identical size to charge ratios (Fig. ).…”
