Frifelt's interest in studying and pursuing archaeology came predominantly from her father and his friends, although her father warned against making a living out of archaeology as he was not sure she was 'tough enough for a life among archaeologists' (7). Although supportive of her studies, Frifelt's parents did not push her to favour one particular subject; she was free to make her own decisions.…”

“…From 1959-65 Frifelt was able to work with the Danish teams in Bahrain under P. V. Glob and T. G. Bibby. By then recognised as an acclaimed scholar in the area of the Gulf, Glob not only provided opportunities for Frifelt to acquire extra practical archaeological excavation experience by working on Bahrain, but according to Frifelt also encouraged independence of thought (10). Her ability as a competent excavator was obviously evident as, following her time on Bahrain, she had the choice of either going to Saudi Arabia with Bibby or undertaking independent excavations and research in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in the UAE.…”
