Capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection on microfluidic systems—ten years of development

Abstract: The use of capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (C 4 D) on miniaturized systems has increased considerably over the last few years. Since the first report, 10 years ago, several advances on the detection cell geometry, strategies for increasing the sensitivity and a wide range of applications have been reported. This review intends to cover the main features related to the instrumental setup of this detection method for analytical and bioanalytical assays on microfluidic chips.

“…14,15 Applications in electrophoretic systems, meanwhile, exhibit drawbacks related to interferences between the electric fields of detection and separation. 4 CNT is a nanomaterial broadly used for the development of detectors and sensors. [16][17][18] Such compounds aggregate advantages which can improve the selectivity and sensitivity of the analytical method.…”

“…It is universal for all ionic compounds without derivatization or indirect approaches. C 4 D features unprecedented ease of the cell arrangement and inherent prevention of the electrode fouling (Coltro et al, 2012;Fracassi da Silva & do Lago, 1998;Kubáň & Hauser, 2013;Zemann, 2003;Zemann, Schnell, Volgger, & Bonn, 1998). An earlier article (Tanyanyiwa, Abad-Villar, & Hauser, 2004) has demonstrated the possibility of using CE-C 4 D on a microchip platform for separation and detection of acesulfame-K and cyclamate in model solutions.…”
