The separation at the source of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is an initiative that facilitates the subsequent recycling work and contributes to palliate the negative impacts of the traditional unsorted collection system. This paper presents a multi-objective integer linear programming model of the determination of the optimal location of assorted waste bins in an urban area. We consider, jointly, the objectives of minimizing the investment cost and the average distance from the dwellings to the bins. The model was applied in simulated instances of an Argentinian medium-size city, contributing to the transition from the current door-to-door based system to a community bins system. To solve this problem, we apply both the weighting method, which has been used to solve similar problems in the literature, and a novel version of the augmented ε-constraint method (AUGMECON2). The results over simulated scenarios show that, in general, AUGMECON2 has a better performance, yielding a larger number of efficient solutions at lower computation times.Growing Science Ltd. Locating and sizing garbage bins for the separate accumulation of household solid waste within urban areas is of primary interest for the local administrations that so far lack adequate IT support. The paper highlights the versatility of a method for solving such a problem, which involves both standard and geographic data. Implementation of the proposal, centered around a spatial database, goes in the direction of developing a supporting software tool to the officials responsible for the management of municipal solid waste. They are offered a dual-mode display of the results: one tabular (the standard format featured by relational databases) and the other based on the metaphor of geographic maps, the latter being particularly useful in capitalizing on the spatial component of the problem.

Abstract. Occupational Safety and Health Experts in Indonesia have an important role in integrating environmental health and safety factors, including in this regard as human resources assigned to undertake hazardous waste management. Comprehensive knowledge and competence skills need to be carried out responsibly, as an inherent professional occupational safety and health profession. Management leaders should continue to provide training in external agencies responsible for science in the management of toxic waste to enable occupational safety and health experts to improve their performance in the hierarchy of control over the presence of hazardous materials. This paper provides an overview of what strategies and competencies the Occupational Safety and Health expert needs to have in embracing hazardous waste management practices.
