Candels/Goods-S, Cdfs, and Ecdfs: Photometric Redshifts for Normal and X-Ray-Detected Galaxies

Abstract: We present photometric redshifts and associated probability distributions for all detected sources in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South (ECDFS). The work makes use of the most up-to-date data from the Cosmic Assembly Near-IR Deep Legacy Survey (CANDELS) and the Taiwan ECDFS Near-Infrared Survey (TENIS) in addition to other data. We also revisit multi-wavelength counterparts for published X-ray sources from the 4Ms-CDFS and 250ks-ECDFS surveys, finding reliable counterparts for 1207 out of 1259 sources (∼96… Show more

“…the 68 per cent confidence intervals) on our photo-z are also comparable to the residuals between our best photo-z estimate and the available spectroscopic redshifts, in contrast to most previous work where errors may be underestimated by a factor ∼ 2 − 6 (e.g. Luo et al 2010;Hsu et al 2014). Furthermore, we require the full p(z) distribution, which most prior studies do not provide.…”

Rest-frame colours are calculated using EaZY (Brammer et al 2011).…”

“…As Figure 14 (left) shows, as survey area increases and the effective flux limits of the surveys become shallower, the detected sources are preferentially at higher luminosity at every redshift. This is further illustrated in Figure 14 (right), which compares the normalized luminosity distribution of Stripe 82X with COSMOS and CDFS, highlighting the complementarity of the different survey strategies in preferentially identifying sources within different luminosity ranges (see, e.g., Hsu et al 2014). Wide-area surveys which explore a large volume of the universe, like Stripe 82X, are necessary to discover rare objects that have a low space density, including the highest luminosity quasars.…”
