CancerPPD: a database of anticancer peptides and proteins

Abstract: CancerPPD (http://crdd.osdd.net/raghava/cancerppd/) is a repository of experimentally verified anticancer peptides (ACPs) and anticancer proteins. Data were manually collected from published research articles, patents and from other databases. The current release of CancerPPD consists of 3491 ACP and 121 anticancer protein entries. Each entry provides comprehensive information related to a peptide like its source of origin, nature of the peptide, anticancer activity, N- and C-terminal modifications, conformati… Show more

“…Online databases are currently available for specific classes of bioactive peptides (e.g., anticancer peptides [68] and antimicrobial peptides [69]) and offer details on their characteristics and properties. Although some SBPs have been deposited into databases that contain a broad range of peptides (e.g., the MimoDB 2.0 database [70]), there is no specialised depository for SBPs.…”

“…This database includes information on sequence, structures, and action mechanisms, depending on the structure, length, hydrophobicity and specific characteristics of each peptide. Then, this database can be useful to design, find and report new peptides and proteins with anticancer activity [57]. Most of the anticancer peptides that are active against tumor cells adopt either a bioactive helical conformation at the cell surface or a β-sheet structure prior to engaging the membrane (Figure 2).…”
