Cancer Stem Cell Markers for Urinary Carcinoma

Abstract: Cancer stem cell (CSC) refers to cancer cells with stem cell properties, that is, they have the ability of “self-renewal” and “differentiation.” Cancer stem cells exist in cancer cells and are the “culprit” of cancer recurrence and metastasis. It is difficult to be found because of its small amount, and it is difficult for anticancer drugs to produce effects on it. At present, the isolation and identification of cancer stem cells from many solid tumors are still quite difficult, mainly due to the lack of speci… Show more

“…[ 15 16 ] There is high expression of CXCR4 on cancer stem cells that are mainly responsible for tumor resistance to anticancer therapies and relapse. [ 17 18 19 ] Targeting cancer stem cells through CXCR4 receptors is a promising approach to combat various malignancies effectively. Although many studies reporting various targeted delivery systems exist,[ 20 ] only a few revolve around CXCR4 receptor targeting.…”

“…CSCs have been proposed to play a major role in tumorigenesis, drug resistance, metastasis, and cancer relapse, because of their ability for self-renewal [ 48 ]. The subpopulation of CSCs that remains in tumor tissue following chemotherapy is responsible for survival and expansion of tumor cells during recurrence [ 49 , 50 ].…”

“…CSCs can be renitent to DNA damage-induced cell death through different ways. These ways include protection against oxidative DNA damage by enhanced ROS scavenging, promotion of the DNA repair capability through ATM and CHK1/CHK2 phosphorylation, or activation of the anti-apoptotic signaling pathways, such as PI3K/Akt, WNT/b-catenin, and Notch signaling pathways [ 47 , 50 ] ( Fig. 3 ).…”
