Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) DANCR (also known as ANCR)—differentiation antagonizing non-protein coding RNA, was first reported in 2012 to suppress differentiation of epithelial cells. Emerging evidence demonstrates that DANCR is a cancer-associated lncRNA abnormally expressed in many cancers (e.g., lung cancer, gastric cancer, breast cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma). Increasing studies suggest that the dysregulation of DANCR plays critical roles in cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion, and chemoresistance in vitro and tumor growth and metastasis in vivo. Mechanistic analyses show that DANCR can serve as miRNA sponges, stabilize mRNAs, and interact with proteins. Recent research reveals that DANCR can be detected in many body fluids such as serum, plasma, and exosomes, providing a quick and convenient method for cancer monitor. Thus DANCR can be used as a promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target for various types of cancer. This review focuses on the role and mechanism of DANCR in cancer progression with an emphasis on the clinical significance of DANCR in human cancers.

Esophageal cancer has always been one of the major malignant tumor types affecting the health of the Chinese population. Metastasis-associated protein 1 (MTA1), SOX4 and enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) are all potent inducers of invasion and metastasis in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, the role of these signaling molecules and their implication in ESCC have remained largely elusive. In the present study, the effects of MTA1, SOX4 and EZH2 on the prognosis of patients with ESCC were explored. Immunohistochemistry was used to examine the expression levels of MTA1, SOX4 and EZH2. The χ 2 test was used to analyze the association between protein expression and clinicopathological parameters. Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazards model survival analysis was performed to investigate the effects of the three proteins examined on disease prognosis. The results indicated that MTA1 may be used as a prognostic and diagnostic marker for ESCC. To the best of our knowledge, the present study was the first to demonstrate that MTA1-SOX4 signaling is associated with prognosis in ESCC. However, no significant association was noted between SOX4 and EZH2 in the present study, which was inconsistent with previously reported findings. The function of the MTA1-SOX4-EZH2 axis and the interactions of the proteins involved require further investigation.

Determinar la prevalencia del cáncer de esófago de acuerdo a su localización, caracterización clínica, anatomopatológica y su tratamiento quirúrgico en el servicio de cirugía general del hospital central del IPS durante el periodo de enero del 2016 a diciembre del 2018. Material y métodos: Estudio descriptivo, retrospectivo mediante la revisión de 37 fichas clínicas de los pacientes que acudieron al servicio de urgencias del Hospital Central del IPS y como cirugía programada con el diagnóstico de cáncer esofágico en quienes fueron intervenidos quirúrgicamente, durante el periodo de enero del 2016 y diciembre del 2018. Resultados: Se incluyeron 37 pacientes con el diagnóstico de cáncer esofágico. Predominó el sexo masculino en 86,48% (n: 32). La edad promedio es de 72 años. El motivo de consulta predominante fue la disfagia. Se encontró predominancia hacia el cáncer de esófago medio en un 40,54%. Se realizó mayormente la gastrostomía para alimentación. El carcinoma escamoso grado III predominaba en un 40,55%.Conclusión: La mayoría de los pacientes con cáncer del esófago se ubican entre los 71 a 80 años. El carcinoma escamoso predomina sobre el adenocarcinoma. La disfagia fue un síntoma común en todos los pacientes. Palabras clave: adenocarcinoma, cáncer del esófago, carcinoma epidermoide.
