Can the use of magnetized water affect the seedling development and the metabolite profiles of two different species: Lentil and durum wheat?

Abstract: Seedlings of durum wheat and lentil were utilized to investigate the efficiency of magnetic water on growth and metabolic epicotyl profile. Tap water was passed through a magnetic device with a flow rate of max. 12900 - 13200 Gauss (G). Seeds and plantlets were grown on sand-free paper soaked by magnetized water, with unmagnetized tap water used in a control group. The growth parameters were collected at three time points (48, 96, and 144 hours after treatment), the same times at which metabolomic analysis was… Show more

“…These modifications include an increase in electrical conductivity, lowered density, reduced surface tension, and a rise in alkalinity [ 12 ]. Although research on its medical applications is still limited, a significant body of evidence has been published on the effects of magnetized saline water, which is typically alkaline [ 11 , 12 ], on both plants [ 13 , 14 ] and animals [ 11 ]. For instance, studies have shown that when aquatic animals are exposed to saline alkaline water, there is a dose-dependent increase in the expression of autophagy-related genes [ 15 ].…”

“…This was caused by greater leaching of soil salt by the magnetized irrigation water (MOSTAFAZADEH-FARD et al, 2012). Moreover, the magnetized water increased yield and yield component traits of all crops; and a lot of research has been done in recent years on the effect of magnetic irrigation on on growth, yield and nutritional qualities different crops (HOZAYN et al, 2011; Cola Pizetta et al, 2023; Qandil et al, 2023; Enan et al, 2023; Khoshravesh and Pourgholam-Amiji, 2023; Hassan et al, 2023; Baiyeri et al, 2023).The results indicate that the use of magnetized water in agriculture can be considered a sustainable technology to promote plant development and quality with reduced and more e cient water usage, leading to costsaving and environmental protection(Sestili et al, 2023). Utilizing brackish water for spring irrigation in combination with magnetized water technology may be a promising alternative strategy(Yi et al, 2023).…”
