Can technology save the world?

Abstract: In successfully conquering nature with engineering and technology, humanity has unwittingly become responsible for the whole biosphere. Unfortunately, we have yet to give adequate study to the philosophical, governmental and strategic consequences of this awesome new burden. This paper, which is based on the author's widely acclaimed presentation at the ICE earlier this year, concludes that engineering and technology finally have a moral purpose—to save the planet.
