“…Similarly, the results showed that people with lower educational levels have a higher propensity to attempt suicide. Despite the lack of consensus on the association between education level and the risk of suicide attempt 30 , the results presented here corroborate previous studies 14 , 31 - 33 . A low education level is likely a marker of social disadvantage, which in turn is associated with various life stressors, including financial stress 11 , all of which are well-established associated factors 34 .…”

“…Alcohol consumption has also been reported as one of the main associated factors for suicidal behavior 42 . This association may be related to the effects of alcohol such as impulsivity, mood changes, and altered cognitive processes 30 . Alcohol consumption may also be related to the presence of psychiatric disorders that increase suicide attempts 43 .…”

“…We investigated the factors related to alcohol use only in patients who engaged in self-harm behaviors, and our results showed that the odds of consuming alcohol during or before self-harm behaviors increased with an increasing education level regardless of suicidal intent. Dambrauskiene et al [18] investigated the association between suicide attempts and al-cohol use disorders. They screened patients with drinking problems using the Cut down, Annoyed, Guilty, and Eyeopener (CAGE) questionnaire, which facilitated the diagnosis of alcohol use disorder.…”

“…Consistent with our findings, alcohol abuse or dependence was independently associated with being married (OR: 1.296; p = 0.0424) or living with someone (OR: 1.989; p = 0.0003). Furthermore, Dambrauskiene et al [18] reported that alcohol use disorder increased the risk of suicide attempts by 3.17 times in married individuals or those unmarried but living together. This could be attributed to patients with a family being more vulnerable to criticism or stigma if they have drinking problems.…”

“…According to the World Health Organization, 25-50% of suicide victims suffered from disorders associated with the use of alcohol and other psychoactive substances, while of all deaths from suicide 22% can be attributed to alcohol use [4]. In the cohort study conducted by Dambrauskiene K. and co-authors, 2/3 of the men and half of the women who committed suicide had problems with alcohol, the risk of suicide was also increased in alcohol abusers compared with drinkers within normal limits [5]. Similar results could be seen in population studies, while it is indicated that with the apparent linearity of the similarity, the relationship between such phenomena is more complex [6].…”
