Can Radiographic Morphometric Parameters for the Hip Be Assessed on MRI?

Abstract: Background Although morphometric hip parameters measured on radiographs are valuable tools guiding diagnosis and therapy in patients with hip disorders, some clinicians use MRI for such measurements, although it is unclear whether the parameters assessed on MRI differ from those assessed on radiographs. Questions/purposes We asked whether the lateral centeredge angle (LCE), Tönnis angle, extrusion index, and anterior center-edge angle (ACE) are similar on MRI and radiography. Methods We retrospectively reviewe… Show more

“…Among experienced raters, our findings were similar to previously published studies reporting the reliability of FV, (24,25,27) LCEA (28) and AV (29) measurements using MRI. Ours is the first to report the reliability of FNA.…”

“…Control participants underwent a standard hip MRI with a 3-Tesla MR scanner (Siemens Magnetom Triotim syngo MR B17) and a 16-channel body coil (coupled with a Siemens Spine array) to ensure they did not have morphological FAI. The alpha angle was measured on the oblique sagittal plane MRI [22,23]; the coronal plane was used to measure the lateral centre edge angle A c c e p t e d M a n u s c r i p t 9 (CEA). Where required, the localizer sequence was used to correct for pelvic obliquity [22].…”
