Hay autores, como Herron (1978), Albert (1979) y Lawson (1982, que lo consideran como complementario del modelo piagetiano, en el sentido de que su campo se ve restringido al aprendizaje de conceptos o conocimientos declarativos, en oposición a la teona piagetiana, que se ocupana más de la adquisición de conocimientos de tipo procedimental.
