“…Our supporting evidence of previously proposed hypotheses is also potentially falsifiable with additional archaeological evidence. For example, recently published radiocarbon determinations from Grenada suggest a previously unidentified Archaic component (35). It is quite possible that expanded research programs on other islands could also push back dates of colonization and strengthen existing chronologies.…”

“…Diorite could be obtained from Tobago, from where geological sources and bead workshop sites are known (Boomert and Rogers 2007). Whereas the occupation of the Golden Grove site on Tobago starts at a later period (AD 690-900), there is an overlap with the newly calibrated dates for Pearls (Hanna 2019). Regarding the other plutonic rocks, there is evidence for the production of geometric pendants, but no evidence for the production of yellowish plutonic rock beads.…”

“…Excavations took place from 1988 to 1990 (Cody 1990;Keegan and Cody 1990); three radiocarbon dates were obtained from marine shells found in the central midden: 1711 ± 74 BP, 1725 ± 54 BP and 1914 ± 51 BP (Cody 1990). The dates were recently calibrated by Hanna (2019), who proposes a time span of AD 370-770.…”

“…Archaeologists debate the colonization route taken by Saladoid peoples, with some favoring an entry point in the southern Lesser Antilles and subsequent movement north (e.g., Grenada) (Rouse 1986; Keegan & Hofman, 2017) and others arguing for a direct jump to Puerto Rico, followed by southward spread through the Lesser Antilles (Fitzpatrick, 2013;Fitzpatrick et al, 2010). Radiocarbon chronologies support this latter "Southward Route Hypothesis" (Fitzpatrick, 2013;Hanna, 2019;Napolitano et al, 2019). The Late Ceramic Age (ca.…”
