Calot's triangle

Abstract: Calot's triangle is an anatomical landmark of special value in cholecystectomy. First described by Jean-François Calot as an "isosceles" triangle in his doctoral thesis in 1891, this anatomical space requires careful dissection before the ligation and division of the cystic artery and cystic duct during cholecystectomy. The modern definition of the boundaries of Calot's triangle varies from Calot's original description, although the exact timing of this change is not entirely clear. The structures within Calot… Show more

“…1). This latter, which is the most challenging step of the entire procedure, requires a meticulous dissection of the Calot's triangle contents [12] for a proper ligation and division of the cystic artery and cystic duct. The simulation platform comprises: realistic physical replicas of the involved anatomical structures, an electromagnetic (EM) tracking system, an optical calibration-acquisition system, and a laptop.…”

“…Essentially, the HC triangle constitutes the area of target for dissection in LC. The triangle differs from the Calot's triangle where cystic artery forms cephalad boundary rather the surface of the liver [1], [2].…”

“…This refers to an area under the liver surface on the right of hepatic hilum. It contains under surface liver cranially, caudal cystic duct, and medially located common hepatic duct (CHD) ( Figure 1) [1], [2]. The triangle features variable quantities of fibrofatty connective tissues, lymphatic, cystic lymph nodes, variable portions of right hepatic artery, and cystic artery [1].…”
