Calizas Estromatolíticas Y Oolíticas Y Definición De La Formación Arroyo De La Pedrera (?Vendiano, Uruguay )

Abstract: STROMATOLITHIC AND OOLITHIC CARBONATIC AND DEFINITION OF THE ARROYO DE LA PEDRERA FORMATION (VENDÍAN?, URUGUAY). The Arroyo de la Pedrera Formation is defined as a new Vendian lithostratigraphic unit of Uruguay. The depositional systems are raade up of: (a) a shallow siliciclastic shelf formed by orthoquarzites and mudstones, grouped in the Cerros San Francisco Member; and (b) peritidal carbonates, which define the Cerro Victoria Member, whose depositional systems extends from the shallow subtidal to the supra… Show more

“…Instead, the later unit rests directly on an angular unconformity to the pre‐Ediacaran basement. Therefore, following the original name proposed by Montaña & Sprechmann (1993), the Arroyo de la Pedrera Formation (hosting the Piedras de Afilar and the Cerro Victoria units) is elevated to group status and separated from the Arroyo del Soldado Group (Fig. 2).…”

“…This lithostratigraphic unit was defined by Gaucher et al. (1996), to include a marine shallowing‐upward sequence ( ca 1500 m) comprising (from base to top) the Polanco Limestone (Goñi & Hoffstetter, 1964), Cerro Espuelitas, Cerros San Francisco (Montaña & Sprechmann, 1993) and Cerro Victoria Formations (Montaña & Sprechmann, 1993). Later, Gaucher et al .…”

“…As formações Cerro de San Francisco (arenitos) e Cerro Victória (carbonatos com estromatól¡to e oords parcialmente silicificados), originalmente descritos como Formação Arroyo de la Pedrera (Montaña & Sprechmann 1993), ocorrem em lllescas. Nesta localidade, pôde-se identificar que os carbonatos tornam-se progressivamente silicificados para o topo, onde predominam estromatólitos de formas diversas e ooids (Gaucher ef a/.…”
