Calibre persistent labial artery: clinical features and noninvasive radiological diagnosis

Abstract: Calibre persistent labial artery (CPLA) is defined as a primary arterial branch that penetrates into the submucosal tissue without division or decrease in diameter. It usually presents as an asymptomatic papule on the lower lip and can be easily misdiagnosed as a varix, haemangioma, venous lake, mucocele or fibroma. When it is ulcerated, squamous cell carcinoma is the most usual differential diagnosis. The most frequently used method to confirm the diagnosis of CPLA has been excisional biopsy, which carries th… Show more

“…CPA has also been described at other sites in the gastrointestinal tract [2,3]. However, this entity is best recognized on the skin of the lower lip [4][5][6][7][8][9][10]. Herein we report three cases of caliber persistent artery occurring on the eyelid, one of which was bilateral.…”

“…A calibre persistent artery (CPA) is a primary arterial branch, which penetrates into submucosal tissue without reduction in its diameter (Lewis, 2003;Kocyigit et al, 2006). This vascular anomaly has been described in the stomach and jejunum with different names including submucosal arterial malformation, Dieulafoy disease, cirsoid aneurysm, and exulceratio simplex (Varga et al, 1986;Vazquez et al, 2005;Scudiere et al, 2006).…”
