Calibration of voltage transformer test set using an error simulator

Abstract

A portable error simulator using a simple voltage divider consisting of a resistor and capacitor in series was developed. The error simulator was applied to the calibration of several commercial current-comparator-based voltage transformer test sets and covered the ratio error and phase errors with ranges up to about ±10% and ±14 crad, respectively. From the calculated and measured values of corresponding readings, the errors in the ratio and phase readings are derived with measurement uncertainty and compared with the accuracy provided by the manufacturer.
