Calibration of diffusion‐advection process models for organochlorine pesticides in a tropical river

Abstract: This paper deals with the calibration of diffusion-advection process models for organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in a river of tropical country called Tucutunemo River, Venezuela. The novelties consist of the following aspects: 1) modeling of pesticides of type organochlorine including DDT and DRIN and their isomers such as: p.p'-DDT, o.p'-DDT, p.p'-DDD, p.p'-DDE, o.p'-DDE, Aldrin, Dieldrin, and Endrin. 2) Determination of parameters and statistical adjustment of diffusion and biochemical transformation coeffi… Show more

“…LULC distribution in Valencia municipality in the area of ER study stretch are (Exhibit 1d): (1) vegetation: 42 km 2 (32%), (2) urban: 11 km 2 (9%), (3) natural terrain: 67 km 2 (51%) and agricultural: 10 km 2 (8%). Tucutunemo river's water network is contained within Zamora municipality, Aragua state, Venezuela, with an approximated total length of streams associated to 73.67 km. LULC distribution in Tucutunemo river basin is described as follows (Exhibit 1e,f) (Cárdenas et al., 2023; Cárdenas‐Izaguirre et al., 2022a, 2022b, Cárdenas‐Izaguirre et al., 2021; Cárdenas‐Izaguirre & Márquez‐Romance, 2021; Márquez‐Romance, Cárdenas‐Izaguirre, et al., 2022): (1) vegetation: 18.92 km 2 , (16%), (2) agricultural 30.08 km 2 (25%) and degraded soil: 69.95 km 2 (59%).…”

“…(c) Tucutunemo river, Aragua state, Venezuela ( Exhibit 1e,f ) : water and sediment samples were collected every six months, in the dry (April) and rainy (October) seasons, from 2013 to 2016. The water and sediment sampling was repeated every 3 days, so that in each season, 9 simple samples were collected, that is, 3 samples per station with 3 repetitions in each of them (Cárdenas et al., 2023; Cárdenas‐Izaguirre et al., 2022a, 2022b, Cárdenas‐Izaguirre et al., 2021; Cárdenas‐Izaguirre & Márquez‐Romance, 2021; Márquez‐Romance, Cárdenas‐Izaguirre, et al., 2022). The water samples were manually collected in amber glass jars, of one liter in capacity, with plastic lids, previously washed and sterilized, in the center line of the river's cross section, in the middle of the channel depth.…”
