INTRODUCCIÓNLos residuos generados en las diferentes etapas de la actividad minera, desde la extracción del mineral hasta el procesamiento del mismo, involucran considerables problemas ambientales como son la contaminación visual, debido al gran volumen de los desechos generados, y química, por la emisión al medioambiente de elementos peligrosos, como son los metales pesados, como Pb y As. Esta perspectiva ha llevado en algunas zonas a un rechazo social de las actividades mineras, considerándolas poco respetuosas con el medio ambiente. Por ello, es importante buscar soluciones para que las actividades mineras se lleven a cabo de una manera más respetuosa con el medio ambiente y tengan una viabilidad económica óptima. Con este enfoque se propone el aprovechamiento de las colas y otros residuos mineros; éstos pueden ser revalorizados y a la vez generar riquezas importantes. Este reaprovechamiento tiene que contemplar, no sólo procesos mediante los cuales no Los residuos generados por las actividades mineras en Bolivia representan graves problemas de contaminación ambiental. En las proximidades de las minas de estaño de Llallagua, en el Departamento de Potosí, existen escombreras y colas de grandes dimensiones. Para el presente trabajo se ha estudiado la utilización de estos residuos como materias primas para la fabricación de vidrio. Con ello se pretende contribuir a la remediación ambiental, ofreciendo con la vitrificación una alternativa para la estabilización de residuos potencialmente peligrosos. Además, la comercialización del producto obtenido podría proporcionar un beneficio económico adicional de la actividad minera. En este estudio se han utilizado tres muestras de residuos con granulometría entre arena y limo. Su composición química, determinada por fluorescencia de rayos X, es granítica, con un elevado contenido en metales pesados. Sobre la base de su composición se han formulado vidrios de sílice mediante la adición CaCO 3 y Na 2 CO 3 . El ciclo térmico se ha determinado a partir del análisis térmico diferencial (ATD). Los valores de la temperatura de transición de los vidrios, T g , del vidrio obtenido oscilan entre 626º y 709 ºC. Por último, se han realizado las pruebas de lixiviación, las cuales corroboran la idoneidad de los vidrios obtenidos para retener los metales pesados. Stained glass is a fragile component of our Cultural Heritage. In particular, the stained glass produced during the last decades of the 19th century and first decades of the 20th century is characterised by the use of a new type ready-to-use enamels. Stained glass was used for the windows of buildings, and a large part of it is exposed to weathering and consequently to deterioration. This study analyses the collection of materials used in one of the most important stained glass Modernist workshops in Barcelona. The chemical composition is determined (and pigments identified) by means of Laser Ablation Inductively-Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry and X-Ray Diffraction and the thermal properties of the enamels measured by Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Hot Stage Microscopy. The enamels are made of a lead-zinc borosilicate glass characterised by its low sintering temperatures and high stability against chemical corrosion, in particular to water corrosion. However, the relatively narrow range of firing temperatures necessary for correct adherence of the enamels to the contemporary glass base may have required the addition of a high lead borosilicate flux, which would have increased the lead content of the enamel, decreasing the firing temperature but also its stability.
