Calculation of gamma-ray attenuation properties of some antioxidants using Monte Carlo simulation method

Abstract: Antioxidants can protect normal cells from reactive oxygen species as a protective agent. Therefore, it is important to know radiation attenuation properties of antioxidants. In the present study, nine different types of antioxidant samples were investigated using Monte Carlo simulation method. MCNPX general-purpose Monte Carlo code (version 2.6.0) was utilized to investigate the attenuation parameters of antioxidant samples such as Rosmarinic acid, Butylhydroxyanisole, Butylhydroxytoluene, Morin, Piperonyl bu… Show more

“…To test the simulation method and provide radiological safety parameters, this work studies MAC for concretes using calculations via MCNPX code. The chemical compositions of these materials are taken from literature (Vijayakumar, Rajasekaran, & Ramamurthy, 2001). Firstly, mass attenuation coefficients of the selected materials were calculated.…”

“…Researchers are particularly interested in the gamma-ray attenuation characteristics of chemicals and pharmaceuticals to better understand their interactions with ionizing radiation [38][39][40][41][42]. In this study, gamma-ray attenuation properties of studied flavonoids were also calculated in addition to chemical properties.…”
