Calculation of bone graft volume using 3D reconstruction system

Abstract: Objectives: To obtain bone "bioreplicas" for determining precisely the amount of biomaterial required for bone regeneration procedure. Study design: A case-control comparison with a total sample size of 20 cases, 10 control and 10 test samples. "Bioreplicas" were generated from helical CAT scans with 0.5 mm slices, without 3D reconstruction or image filters. Bone defects in premolar and molar areas were treated with titanium mesh and xenograft (MP3) combined with resorbable carriers. Time taken to carry out pr… Show more

“…It is a well-known fact calcium levels are a good indicator of bone quality, so elemental analysis is a good way of assessing the quality of neoformed bone ( 6 - 7 ). Although there may be good BIC levels, if the neoformed bone is of low quality with low calcium content, implant retention will be less than expected and long-term stability may be compromised ( 8 ).…”

“…This procedure made it easy to set the safety margins of the disease and to design various types of osteotomies. Many studies have emphasized the advantages of using CAS to save time, ensure accurate results, and obtain aesthetic results, but no study has investigated the benefits of preserving anatomical structures using various types of osteotomies [2,[4][5][6][7]16] Bone volume calculation in three-dimensional images is a commonly used method for the evaluation of surgical results [17]. In this study, the volume and surface of the remaining mandibular bone after mandibular resection were analyzed in conventional resection simulation and tailor-made resection simulation, and the results were statistically significant ( Table 3).…”
