“…In previous works, within the framework of a study on the limiting of gypsum scale formation in the heat transfer surfaces of a desalination unit using solar energy and evaporation -condensation principle, it was shown at laboratory scale that the sodium salt of poly(acrylic acid) based compound known as RPI is the most efficient compared with others commercial products (Permatreat 191: amino phosphate; STP: sodium triphosphate Na 5 P 3 O 10 ; Flocon 260: a mixture of polycarboxylate and organic phosphate) [20]. It was also shown that the polyacrylate inhibitor does not affect gypsum precipitation in the same way when it precipitated from an initial supersaturated solutions or from a solutions saturated by evaporation.…”

“…Most authors explained this inhibitory power by the adsorption of these additives onto crystal growth sites of nascent crystals altering their surface proprieties. Other authors [16][17][18][19][20] were interested in the application of polyacrylates as scale inhibitors. The main advantage in using polyacrylates lies in their excellent thermal stability compared with polyphosphates and other copolymers [16].…”

“…It was shown that manganese and copper ions are antagonistic to the performance of acrylate-based polymers but the adverse impact is not as great as with Fe 3+ . Recently, Ahmad et al [4] investigated the performance of various additives (e.g., sodium salt of aminotris(methylene phosphonate), sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium polyacrylate, a blend of polycarboxylate and phosphonate) as gypsum scale inhibitors. Results of this study reveal that gypsum scale inhibition strongly depends on the concentration and the type of inhibitor tested.…”
