Calcium Nitrate Concentrations in Fertigation for ‘Terra’ Banana Production

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of calcium nitrate concentration of irrigation water on soil chemical attributes and productivity during the first 'Terra' banana crop cycle. The experiment followed a completely randomized design with six treatments and five replications, with six plants per plot. Treatments consisted in the use of three calcium nitrate concentrations (3.0, 10.0 and 13.0 g.L -1 ), applied via dripping and micro-micro-sprinkling irrigation. The results showed that the s… Show more

“…Soil texture plays a significant role in EC variations and fields with higher sand content generally have lower EC [48,78]. In addition to soil texture, soil water content, nutrients and salt accumulation and plant nutrient uptake also impact EC which causes intraseason variations in soil EC at different plant growth stages [79][80][81][82].…”

“…Monitoring of soil properties is essential for agricultural management (Benos et al, 2021). Banana crops have essential soil-nutritional requirements such as N, P, and K (Alves et al, 2015;de Andrade Neto et al, 2017;Rajput et al, 2017). Furthermore, the decrease of banana crop yield can be caused by a lack of soil nutrients or weak soil management (Cevallos et al, 2020).…”

“…Unfortunately, the nutrient content of sewage sludge is decreased during processing [9], and it needs to be supplemented with chemical fertilizers. The fertigation method consists of the application of a fertilizer via water irrigation [10], which is widely used in the agricultural and forestry sectors to complement the chemical fertilizers in the substrates, which results in the rapid absorption of fertilizers by the roots [11].…”
