Calcarides A–E, Antibacterial Macrocyclic and Linear Polyesters from a Calcarisporium Strain

Abstract: Bioactive compounds were detected in crude extracts of the fungus, Calcarisporium sp. KF525, which was isolated from German Wadden Sea water samples. Purification of the metabolites from the extracts yielded the five known polyesters, 15G256α, α-2, β, β-2 and π (1–5), and five new derivatives thereof, named calcarides A–E (6–10). The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated on the basis of one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy supported by UV and HRESIMS data. The compounds exhibited i… Show more

“…The bioassays with the clinically relevant bacterial strains Staphylococcus epidermidis (DSM 20044), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (DSM 18827), and the causative agent of acne, Propionibacterium acnes (DSM 1897 T ), were performed as described by Silber et al [32]. The phytopathogenic fungus Septoria tritici and the dermatophytic fungus Trichophyton rubrum as well as the cytotoxic effect on the human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line HepG2 were tested according to Jansen et al [33].…”

“…The bioassays using the clinically relevant bacterial strains Staphylococcus epidermidis (DSM 20044), the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) (DSM 18827), and Klebsiella pneumoniae DSM 30104 were performed as described by Silber et al ., 2013 [27]. S. aureus and K. pneumoniae were investigated in the same manner as S. epidermidis.…”
