CAI-driven new ideas generation for product conceptual design

Abstract: New idea generation is the key factors for product conceptual design process. The obstacle for idea generation in the process is difficult to apply knowledge in different fields for designers. Computer-aided innovation systems (CAIs) which are TRIZ-base software systems with a knowledge base provide a framework for knowledge application in different fields, and are suitable for the application for the designers to generate new ideas. Product design is situational, and the situation is different from the tradit… Show more

“…Machine ideation can avoid or reduce some of those unstable factors via computing's specialties, such as vast knowledge database, fast computing speed, un-emotional process, etc. [30] Presently, there are research studies worked on designing computer systems to support idea generation. For example, Zhang and his colleagues [30] proposed a computer-aided innovation (CAI) system to assist new idea generation for product conceptual design, refers to Figures 5 and 6.…”

“…The third level is the systematic methods, such as a method for incremental innovation, radical innovation [65], disruptive innovation [47,66,67], patent round innovation [68], analogy-based design [69], etc. The fourth level is about the computer-aided innovation, including CAI tools and application process [45,70,71]. In the training process we present many cases which show the applications of the knowledge step by step in different level as the application cases.…”
