Abstract: ObjectiveCaffeine, an adenosine receptor antagonist, is a potent central nervous system stimulant that also impairs insulin signaling. Recent studies have suggested that coffee consumption lowers serum urate (SU) and protects against gout, by unknown mechanisms.
