Caffeic Acid and Diseases—Mechanisms of Action

Abstract: Caffeic acid belongs to the polyphenol compounds we consume daily, often in the form of coffee. Even though it is less explored than caffeic acid phenethyl ester, it still has many positive effects on human health. Caffeic acid can affect cancer, diabetes, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, or bacterial and viral infections. This review focuses on the molecular mechanisms of how caffeic acid achieves its effects.

“…Therefore, it is crucial to monitor and detect pesticides in foods and vegetables to mitigate these risks. Caffeic acid (CA), a naturally occurring organic small molecule frequently present in vegetables and fruits, belongs to the phenolic and cinnamic acid group and exhibits excellent pharmacological functions such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties in medicine. The recommended daily intake of CA is 0.3–0.9 g . For medical diagnostics and information security applications, the development of MRLI capable of detecting both CA and its chemical derivatives is essential.…”

“…Natural medicines are an important way to develop low‐toxicity and highly effective targeted drugs. Caffeic acid, an organic acid widely found in beverages such as coffee, chocolate and black tea, CA has a wide range of pharmacological effects including antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, bacteriostatic, and neuroprotective effects 9,10 . Supplementation with CA has been reported in the literature to inhibit the growth of major bacterial strains isolated from clinical bovine mastitis milk samples.…”
