“…The 6.7% incidence of caesarean section occurring in patients induced using methods aimed at stimulating prompt uterine activity indicates that elective induction policies should not be undertaken without due consideration of the induction features. The caesarean section rate reported is lower than that of 8–11% reported following surgical induction and the delayed use of oxytocics (Pinkerton and Carson 1968; MacVicar 1971). Whilst a lower operative intervention rate might have been expected with the prompt use of intravenous oxytocin titration it is difficult to directly draw this conclusion because changing obstetric attitudes have influenced the time of intervention of operation.…”
