Cadmium tolerance increased synergistically by heterologous co-expression of SpHMT1 and AtPCS1 in budding yeast

Abstract: Heterologous and simultaneous expression of Schizosaccharomyces pombe heavy metal tolerance factor 1 (SpHMT1) and Arabidopsis thaliana phytochelatin synthase (AtPCS1) showed synergistically increased tolerance to Cd in budding yeast. This finding suggests that the action of HMT1 in Cd detoxification is well correlated with that of PCS.
