Cadastral maps of irrigated areas by center pivots in the State of Minas Gerais, using CBERS-2B/CCD satellite imaging

Abstract: Medium-resolution satellite images have been widely used for the identification and quantification of irrigated areas by center pivot. These areas, which present predominantly circular forms, can be easily identified by visual analyses of these images. In addition to identifying and quantifying areas irrigated by center pivot, other information that is associated to these areas is fundamental for producing cadastral maps. The goal of this work was to generate cadastral mapping of areas irrigated by center pivo… Show more

“…The evaluation of number and area irrigated by central pivot systems using geographic information systems and geoprocessing has also been reported in other studies. In the State of Minas Gerais for the cadastral mapping of the central pivot irrigated areas, 47% of the pivots in this study (1.828 systems) irrigate areas between 50 and 100 hectares and that expressive numbers (1.277) of pivots irrigate smaller areas and that few units irrigate areas larger than 150 hectares ( Ferreira et al, 2011) . In Rio Grande do Sul, it was reported the identification and quantification of areas irrigated by central pivot, by river basins and by municipalities in which the central pivots had an average size of 63.66 ha (Martins et al, 2016).…”

“…A área de estudo encontra-se situada no interior do estado da Bahia, onde há o predomínio de irrigação por pivôs centrais (mais de 30.000 ha de área em municípios como Barreira e São Desidério), conforme aponta a Agência Nacional de Águas -ANA (2019).…”

“…Spaceborne sensors and GIS techniques provide useful information such as land use and occupancy (Wrublack et al, 2013b), also watersheds delimitation, valuable for evaluation of environmental impacts and its source. The systematized information enables the integrated analysis of the study area, as well as processing large amounts of information through geographic information systems (Ferreira et al, 2011), therefore, becoming an essential tool, providing consistent information about the watershed and for driving strategies for management of natural resources.…”
