CAD, CAE and rapid prototyping methods applied in long bones orthopaedics

Abstract: The paper presents some methods used to analyze human bone joints. First, there were defined the "hard" parts as the main bone components and "soft" parts as ligaments or menisci using CT images. These components are imported into a parameterized environment assembly module and a biomechanical model of human walking is being obtained, which is exported to a kinematic simulation environment and finite element analysis, where first the kinematic parameters are defined. With these defined parameters, the kinemati… Show more

“…The model obtained in InVesalius was exported to Geomagic for processing and editing. The Geomagic program is mainly used for processing 3D scans or files containing so-called "point clouds", using Reverse Engineering techniques [3][4][5][6][7]. This model, in the primary phase, is shown in Fig.…”

“…For these reasons, the three-dimensional geometric pattern of the tissues of a personalized human system is very important, being the basis of these analyzes. For example, we analyzed and studied the dento-maxillary system of a real patient [1][2][3].…”

“…Development of computers and software for the CAD product design, that also include 3D modeling of different prototypes, and with rapidly progress of technologies to produce realistic physical models enable to overcome the shortcomings of traditional methods of prototyping. These RP technologies are used for creating a very complex models [5,6].…”
