Show more

“…in Minas Department, Northwestern Córdoba province, in Central Argentina (Figure 1). The assemblage encompasses carcasses with different degrees of integrity and isolated specimens that lacked anatomical relationship at the time of collection, all deriving from the same relictual biological population (Barri et al, 2023;Costa et al, 2022;Costa and Barri, 2018;Weihmüller, 2023). The causes of death are varied, including poaching, entanglement in fences, and natural or unknown causes.…”

“…Considering that guanacos were the main prey of human populations in the region across the Holocene, our data has important implications for human paleodietary research in the region (Fabra and González, 2019; Laguens et al, 2009). Moreover, this work allowed us to assess the advantages and disadvantages of stable isotopes as a line of evidence to address current discussions in regional zooarchaeology, like the timing and causes of guanaco retraction in the area (Costa and Barri, 2018; Costa et al, 2022; Manzano-García et al, 2019; Medina and Rivero, 2020; Rivero and Medina, 2016). We are aware that an issue like this requires larger datasets for a more robust answer.…”
