Riata lead up to date
Recalled Riata leadThe use of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) has spread for primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death. However, there have been several problems to overcome, such as infection, complications during implantation, and device malformation. Some devices were recalled due to high failure rates. The Riata lead (St. Jude Medical, St Paul, MN, USA) was also recalled.The Riata lead was released in 2001, designed with a small body diameter of 8 Fr, covered by silicon insulation and has double conductors per electrode (Fig. 1). In 2004 the Riata ST with a diameter of 7 Fr was also released, which has not been released in Japan.
