Objective:Our aim was to explore the efficacy of aromatase inhibitor in preventing OHSS.
Materials and methods:The study was conducted in Infertility Care and Research Center, Dhaka, Bangladesh. One hundred and twenty patients, who were the potential candidates for developing OHSS, were the target population. They were divided into two groups. One received tab letrozole and other group were selected for coasting for prevention of OHSS.Results: Three patients (5%) in letrozole group developed mild to moderate OHSS and no one developed severe form of OHSS. On the other hand 8.33% developed mild to moderate and 3.33% developed severe form of OHSS in coasting group. Though number of metaphase II oocyte retrieval was similar in two groups, number of grade I egg and grade I embryo were lower in letrozole group. But there was no significant difference in pregnancy rate as transferable embryo was optimum in letrozole group. No cycle was cancelled in either group and no ET was deferred in letrozole group, whereas in 5 (8.33%) cases embryo transfer was deferred in coasting group.
Conclusion:The results of this study suggest that without compromising the result of ART aromatase inhibitor can be used to reduce oestrogen level and prevent the severity of OHSS.
