CA125 modified by PLT and NLR improves the predictive accuracy of adenomyosis-derived pelvic dense adhesion

Abstract: To explore the value of serum levels of CA125, platelet count (PLT), neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and modified CA125 markers CA125a and CA125b in predicting pelvic dense adhesion (PDA) associated with adenomyosis, CA125a = lg(CA125 × PLT × 109), CA125b = lg(CA125 × NLR).This retrospective study included 304 patients who underwent surgery for adenomyosis. Correlations of serum levels of CA125, PLT, NLR, and modified CA125 markers with adenomyosis-derived PDA were analyzed by Logistic regression. Receiver … Show more

“…A number of patients have high levels of serum CA125. CA125 modified by platelet count and neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio improves the predictive accuracy of adenomyosis-derived pelvic dense adhesion (3). Adenomyosis was considered to be a chronic immune inflammatory disease.…”

“…While NLR was found to be positively correlated with age in a study, no relationship between CA-125 and NLR and the stage of endometriosis was found [18]. Jiang et al [28], on the other hand, suggested that CA-125 combined with NLR and PLR may be a predictor of adenomyosis-related dense pelvic adhesions. Based on all these findings, it can be concluded that the relationships between NLR, PLR and CA-125 and the clinical symptoms of endometriosis are still unclear, and remain to be elucidated.…”

“…The majority of previous studies focused on the serum protein biomarkers, such as cancer antigen 125 (CA125) or human epididymis protein 4 (HE4), 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 but these biomarkers have not been adapted for clinical use for adenomyosis. Serum levels of CA125 have been shown to be increased in adenomyosis patients 12 , 13 , 14 ; however, this biomarker is typically elevated in women with other conditions, such as endometriosis, 15 , 16 or endometrial, 17 , 18 and ovarian cancers, 19 which limits its diagnostic value. 11 …”
