“…It has long been a widely held belief in PA education that there is little standardization of the prerequisite courses required by programs. Respondents to PAEA's most recent Curriculum Survey indicated support for higher levels of uniformity in prerequisites, with two-thirds (67.8%) of programs favoring establishment of a set of “universal academic course prerequisites.” 25 Lack of standardization increases the variability of course requirements and the number of prerequisites that applicants need to fulfill and may disadvantage some applicants who might face both financial and time barriers. However, the literature is inconclusive as to whether standardized prerequisites would be beneficial or detrimental to URM applicants.…”
