“…In Nepal, Bhattarai et al (2021) report that in some cases women leaders have been able to challenge the patriarchal systems that minimize their water problems, but call for open deliberation regarding the causes and consequences of the existing approaches and practices. Further, gender and social structures need to be questioned and changed, as masculinities are also changing, such as not always being the main breadwinner, taking on unpaid care work, or holding traditional masculine occupations (McLean, 2021; Rost, 2021). Accounting for this complexity may highlight ways to reduce the power imbalances in decision‐making related to water resources and foster better enabling conditions for inclusive participation.…”

“…Instead of ‘strong social sanctions for men who took more active responsibility for care’ (Rost, 2021, p. 46) or ‘negative social stigma when they take advantage of leave policies or flexible work arrangements’ (Thebaud & Pedulla, 2016, p. 593), I observed a sense of respect being expressed, for the men who were co‐parenting, by their peers. Therefore, if I follow Bicchieri's (2017) definition of social norms and use ‘beliefs about others’ approval’ as a proxy for social norms regarding fathers' participation in childcare, it seems that the norm has definitely shifted in the case of the urban upper‐middle‐class residents of Delhi‐Gurgaon.…”

“…Research on changing masculinities around the world; scholarship on fatherhood; and the impact of paternal leave and other work‐family policies on men as caregivers (Doucet, 2006; Jordan, 2020; Rost, 2021; Thebaud & Pedulla, 2016; Van de Sand et al., 2018) provide the conceptual clarity on this.…”

“…According to Ferrant et al (2014) "Unpaid care work refers to all unpaid services provided within a household for its members, including care of persons, housework and voluntary community work" (p.3). Likewise, OECD observes that unpaid care work includes caring for children, elderly and sick people (Rost, 2021;Power, 2020). It also includes washing, cooking, shopping, cleaning and helping other families with their chores.…”
