Buzios Presalt Wells: Delivering Intelligent Completion In Ultra-Deepwater Carbonate Reservoirs

Abstract: This paper describes the challenges faced on the deployment of intelligent well completion (IWC) systems in some of the wells built in Buzios field, mostly related to heavy fluid losses that occurred during the well construction. It also presents the solutions used to overcome them. This kind of event affects not only drilling and casing cementing operations, but may also prevent a safe and efficient installation of the completion system as initially designed. The IWC design typically used in Br… Show more

“…In the work of Schnitzler et al (2015Schnitzler et al ( , 2019Schnitzler et al ( , 2021 one can observe the evolution of IWC design for a typical well in the Brazilian Pre-salt area, with 2 or 3 zones (therefore, 2 or 3 ICVs) that started with cased hole completion, and it is now migrating to open-hole completion, focused on CAPEX reduction during installation and future workover interventions.…”

“…Reservoir simulation can help identify and understand how ICV could affect oil flow and reservoir sweep. Schnitzler et al (2021) modelled the flow through a new design of ICV to verify if the valve itself would be a restriction for production in the tubing string.…”
