Butyltins compounds in molluscs from Chinese Bohai coastal waters

Abstract: Concentrations of butyltin compounds including tributyltin (TBT), dibutyltin (DBT) and monobutyltin (MBT) were determined in mollusc samples from Chinese Bohai coastal sites to evaluate the extent of contamination and potential adverse effects on health. Wide existence of butyltins was found in these samples with a detection rate of up to 90%, and the concentrations of the total butyltin ( P BTs: TBT + DBT + MBT) ranged from <2.5 to 397.6 ng Sn/g wet weight (mean 63 ng Sn/g). Among BTs, TBT was the predominant… Show more

“…Study on residual quantity of Hg, Cd, Pb and As in Scapharca subcrenata along coat of Bohai and Yellow sea indicated the pollution with the investigated area by four metals decreased during 1990-1997 [132]. Investigation on butyltin compounds in mollusks from Chinese Bohai coastal waters indicated ongoing usage of TBT-based antifouling agents leading to aquatic organotin pollution in China, and also showed a potential danger for the health of the local people who cared for these polluted seafoods [133].…”

“…Numerous studies on the distribution of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and heavy metals have been conducted in this region, revealing the unfavorable effects brought along with the dense urban activities and the rapid economic development during the past several decades. [20][21][22] However, only a limited number of studies on PFC pollution in this area have been conducted.…”

“…Several studies have provided information about the distribution of organotins in Chinese marine products such as fish and shellfish (Zhou et al, 2002Yang et al, 2006bYang et al, , 2006dLi et al, 2003). In addition to providing information about organotin distribution in China, these reports have also been helpful in determining hotspots of contaminated food sources that may present serious human health risks.…”

“…The southeastern to northeastern China coastlines, specifically an area called the Bohai coast, have been extensively studied for organotin contamination (Zhou et al, 2002Yang et al, 2006bYang et al, , 2006dLi et al, 2003). Several cities in this region have very active shipping industries that have resulted in serious problems with aquatic pollution.…”
