Abstract: Republic of Burundi is a landlocked country located in the Great Lakes region of Eastern Africa, bordered by Democratic Republic of Congo, ▶ Rwanda, and ▶ Tanzania (Figure 1). A small country (27,830 km 2 /10,745 mi 2 ) with a population of 10,939,822 in 2014, it is ranked among the poorest country in the world with a GDP growth of 4.2 % (World Bank 2013).Burundi's economy is predominantly agricultural (30 % of GDP), employing more than 90 % of its population.
